Essential Oils for Low back pain (4 best oils)

Essential oils can have a potent effect on the body with many studies to support its use in safe ways. Low back pain is no exception. Low back pain will effect up to 80% of the population at any given time. This is a huge statistic and there is much needed improvement on treatment and correct diagnosis.

This is where essential oils can shine if used properly. We will discuss single essential oils and how they can help with low back pain.

  1. Peppermint

Peppermint has many uses besides pain but it peppermint essential oil can help tremendously with low back pain. The way that peppermint oil helps with low back pain is that it has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic. What this translates to is that it helps to relieve pain, decrease inflammation and decreases muscles spasms. That means more low back pain relief for you!

2. Marjoram

Marjoram is another great essential oil for low back pain. It has some of the properties that peppermint does such as anti-spasmodic. This is a powerful anti-spasmodic. A lot of massage therapists will include this in their massage blends to help relieve muscle tension.

3. Wintergreen

Wintergreen smells great and what is even better it can soothe low back pain. It has been shown to have cortisone-like effects which helps to decrease inflammation in the muscle and other tissues that can cause low back pain.

4. Helichrysum

This last one on the list helps to heal tissues that have been damaged that are involved with low back pain. This has great healing properties that are neuroprotective which means that it helps to protect nerves involved in low back pain.

I would recommend using these in a blend and mixing together. 10 drops of each in a essential oil bottle and filling with fractionated coconut oil. I use these on a regular basis to better help with low back pain in my personal life and recommend it to my patients on a regular basis!

The best application frequency is 3 times a day at least especially if you are after tissue healing. Either rubbing it in yourself or having someone rub it in for you for a few minutes will help drive the oils deeper.
